Madame Manu Privacy Policy
Madame Manu is an app made by EveryBod, LLC, a California limited liability company ("we," "us"). It reads your palm from a photo and maps your birth chart. This policy explains exactly what happens to the information you give it.
What you give the app, and what happens to it
- Palm photos. In the current version of the App, your palm photo is read entirely on your phone: the App finds your hand, measures it and traces its lines on the device. The photo and the measurements are never uploaded or sent to us or anyone else, and they are deleted from your phone when you leave your reading. Early test versions of the App (TestFlight builds 10 and earlier) instead sent the photo over an encrypted connection to our server, which processed it in memory only and deleted it as soon as the reading was delivered, and always within 30 minutes.
- Birth details. For the star map, the app sends your birth date, birth time (if you give one) and birthplace, and optionally the city you live in. These are used to calculate your chart and are not stored.
- City search. The letters you type to find a city are sent to our server to look up matching places. They are not stored or logged.
- Which hand you write with. Used only to frame your reading. Not stored.
Biometric information: hand geometry
To read your palm, Madame Manu measures the geometry of your hand in the photo: the position of 21 points on your hand, the proportions of your fingers, thumb and palm, and the paths of the creases on your palm. Some laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act and Washington's biometric identifier law, treat a scan of hand geometry as a biometric identifier. Our full written policy, including our retention schedule and destruction guidelines and our consumer health data privacy policy, is the Biometric and Health Data Policy. In summary:
- Consent first. We collect a scan of your hand geometry only after you receive this notice in the app and give your written release by checking the consent boxes before your first palm reading. The App won't measure a hand without that consent, and (for early test versions) our server refused any palm photo sent without it. You can withdraw consent at any time by not taking further readings and resetting consent in the app's About screen.
- Purpose. Hand measurements are used only to produce the reading you asked for, at that moment. They are not used to identify you, to recognize you later, to train any model, or for any other purpose.
- Where it happens. In the current version, hand geometry is measured on your own device and is never transmitted to us, so we never collect, receive or possess it. In early test versions (TestFlight builds 10 and earlier), it was measured on our server.
- Retention schedule and destruction. On your device, your photo and hand measurements exist only while your reading is open. The camera or photo picker copy and a resized copy are kept briefly as files in the App's private cache, and the App deletes them, and drops the measurements from memory, when you leave the reading. If the App closes before that, it deletes any leftover photo files the next time it opens. In early test versions that used our server, the photo and measurements existed only in the server's working memory, were never written to disk or a database, and were permanently destroyed as soon as the reading was delivered, and in every case within 30 minutes of upload.
- No sale, no profit from your biometric data. We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from your hand measurements or photos.
- No disclosure. We do not disclose your hand measurements or photos to anyone. In the current version they never reach us. In early test versions, the processing ran on servers rented from our hosting provider (Fly.io), which had no access to them for its own purposes. We would disclose them only where a valid court order or law requires it.
- Security. Photos travel only over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and are held only in memory, using at least the care we use for other confidential information.
- Other people's hands. Only photograph your own hands, or the hands of another adult (18 or older) who has agreed to have their palm read and measured. Never photograph anyone under 18. By using Madame Manu you confirm you have that person's consent.
Records of your consent
When you agree to these terms, give biometric consent, or withdraw it, the App sends us a consent receipt so we can show that consent was given. A receipt contains: a random code the App created when installed, which agreement it was, the version and exact wording of each box you checked, how your age was checked (Apple's age range, or a birth month and year showing you're 18 or older, never the date itself), and the time. It does not contain your name, email, phone number, IP address, photos, or hand geometry. The random code is never sent with your palm photos, so a receipt can't be linked to any reading.
We also keep a daily count of how many palm photos we measured under each consent version, with no identifiers, to show that every photo was measured with consent.
We keep these records for at least five years, the period during which legal claims about consent can be brought, and only for that purpose.
What we don't collect
No name, email, phone number, contacts, location from your device, advertising ID, or analytics. The app contains no ads and no third-party tracking or analytics tools.
Technical data
To protect the service from abuse, the server counts how many readings come from each network address in the last hour. These counts are held in memory only and disappear within an hour. Our server does not keep request logs of what you search for or send.
Cards you save or share
When you tap Save, your reading card is saved to your photo library (with your permission). When you tap Share, it goes wherever you choose to send it. What happens after that is up to you and the service you share it with.
Camera and photo library permissions
- Camera: to photograph your palm.
- Photo library (choose): only if you pick an existing palm photo instead.
- Photo library (add): only to save your reading card when you tap Save.
You can change these at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
Service providers
- Fly.io hosts our server in the United States (star-map calculations, city search and consent receipts; palm readings only for early test versions).
- Expo delivers app updates. When the app checks for an update, Expo receives basic technical information such as the app version and device platform.
- Apple distributes the app. Apple's own privacy policy covers downloads, purchases and crash reports you choose to share with developers.
Children
Madame Manu is only for adults 18 and over. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and the App checks your age before use, using the age range Apple holds for your Apple Account where Apple provides it (as Texas law requires), or otherwise your birth month and year. Apple shares only a range, never your birth date, and we don't keep your birth month and year. If the check shows you're under 18, the App stays closed to you on that phone. We do not knowingly process information about anyone under 18; if you believe a minor's photo was submitted, contact us.
Your rights
Because we don't store your photos, hand geometry, birth details or any account information, there is nothing of that kind for us to access, correct or delete. The only records we keep are the anonymous consent receipts described above. You can ask us to delete those receipts by sending us the install code shown on the App's About screen. If you have a question about your data, including under the California Consumer Privacy Act, Washington's My Health My Data Act or the GDPR, contact us and we'll answer within 45 days. Requests about hand photos or measurements are covered in the Biometric and Health Data Policy.
For entertainment
Readings are based on traditional palmistry texts and astrological tradition. They are for entertainment only and are not medical, psychological, financial or legal advice.
Terms
Your use of Madame Manu is also governed by our Terms of Use.
Changes
If we change how the app handles your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. If a change affects hand measurements, the app will ask for your consent again.
